Making a wooden wheelchair ramp yourself is not very difficult. To support the patient and wheelchair weight the ramp must be strongly built.
1. Cut out a square piece of plywood of length 5.5 feet by 1.5 feet. A straight-edge is placed diagonally on the square piece of plywood and the square piece is cut into the two triangle shaped pieces required for the ramp.
2. Prepare two four 4-foot pieces to connect the ramp sides. Place the two bottom pieces in such a way that one is kept flush in the back corners and other is kept just before the side triangles’ front tip.
3. Using the drill, screws are screwed through the side plywood triangles into each end of the 2-by-4s. The top 2-by-4s are positioned in the top corners and one in the middle of the side triangles, and are screwed in place with two side screws.
4. A square piece of plywood cut and placed on top of the ramp and the plywood edges are screwed into the triangle shaped plywood sides of the ramp. Then plywood is screwed to the three 2-by-4s which are at the top of the ramp.
