    Removing the Wallboard Ceiling

    Mostly wallboard ceilings are damaged due to water leaks making their removal necessary.

    Instructions

    1. Cover all surfaces in the room using tarps. Use plastic sheets to cover all doorways to seal the room.

    2. Clear out the room of its possessions. Use a stud finder to locate a ceiling joist and mark the ceiling with a crayon. Move the stud finder toward the center of the room and locate and mark the next joist.

    3. A 6-inch hole is cut in the wallboard between the two marks using a drywall saw.

    4. By placing the pry bar into the holes, pull the wallboard down. Continue till you expose all joists.

    5. After locating the nails left behind in the joists, wedge the claw end of a hammer in between the nail and the joist to pull nails out. Pull the nails with claw end of the hammer after knocking the wallboard out.

    Applying the Drip Edge on Roof

    Metal drip edge is installed around the outer edges of a roof to prevent it from damage to the fascia board due to moisture.

    Instructions

    1. Starting from one corner of the roof cover the outer perimeter of the roof with full sheet of drip edge overlapping the fascia board.

    2. Using a hammer and 1 1/4-inch galvanized roofing nails fasten the drip edge to the roof. Secure the drip edge and plywood roof sheathing by hammering a nail distanced every foot and a half.

    3. Using a pair of sheet metal snips cut a second piece of drip edge.

    4. The second piece of drip edge should be placed onto the roof so as to overlap the first piece by two inches. It’s necessary to overlap the drip edge by two inches to prevent water and other moisture from entering underneath the material, to avoid water damage to the roof.

    5. Installation of drip edge is continued till you cover the entire outer edge of the roof.

    How to Perform Truss Racking?

    Construction of truss racking is mainly done on top of the truss using wood or steel.

    According to the definition given by the Tennessee Department of Transportation a truss consists of individual members performing together as a unit. The construction of the roof includes the truss and the racking is the extra storage area.
    Definition

    Racking on a truss is an extra storage area which is situated on the roof useful for storage. Wood or steel can be used for the construction of racking.

    Function

    Racking is mainly constructed for the purpose of storage of items. Steel racking store is mainly used to store heavy items such as machines by business people, homeowners use the additional space for household items that are not in regular use.

    Sizes

    The shape of the truss decides the racking size. Racking constructed on a wide arch-type truss is larger in size as compared to racking built on a narrow triangular-shaped truss.
