    Removing the Wallboard Ceiling

    Mostly wallboard ceilings are damaged due to water leaks making their removal necessary.

    Instructions

    1. Cover all surfaces in the room using tarps. Use plastic sheets to cover all doorways to seal the room.

    2. Clear out the room of its possessions. Use a stud finder to locate a ceiling joist and mark the ceiling with a crayon. Move the stud finder toward the center of the room and locate and mark the next joist.

    3. A 6-inch hole is cut in the wallboard between the two marks using a drywall saw.

    4. By placing the pry bar into the holes, pull the wallboard down. Continue till you expose all joists.

    5. After locating the nails left behind in the joists, wedge the claw end of a hammer in between the nail and the joist to pull nails out. Pull the nails with claw end of the hammer after knocking the wallboard out.

    Hang your Cabinets above the Island

    Attach the cabinets that are installed above an island to the ceiling with the help of simple tools.

    Instructions

    1. Locate the studs in the ceiling by sliding the stud finder across the ceiling. Make a mark on the ceiling with a pencil when the stud finder lights up.

    2. Secure the cabinet into position. A level is placed onto the bottom and sides of the cabinet. Wood shims are placed between the cabinet and the ceiling for leveling.

    3. The cabinet is screwed to the ceiling by placing 3 -inch grabber screws through the top of the cabinet and into the ceiling using a power drill.

    4. Fix the cabinet next to the previously installed cabinet. You should screw the two cabinets together using 1 1/4-inch grabber screws and a power drill. The fronts should be flush before fastening the two cabinets together.

    5. Cabinet is to be fastened to the ceiling in the same manner as the first.

    Drywall compound, or joint compound, is a white substance which is useful in filling gaps, holes and seams in drywall. The material is white in color can be painted to suit your need. As the consistency of the pre-mixed compound is similar to peanut butter, application is relatively easy. Texturing a wall with the compound should be done when the material is still wet.

    Instructions

    1. After scooping the pre-mixed compound onto a taping knife, spread it over the wall. The thickness of the layer should be 1/8th inch approximately.

    2. After covering a 4-foot-square section with the compound, make the surface smooth with the flat edge of the taping knife.

    3. After press the desired texture against the wall, pull it free. If you use natural sponge paint roller it will create a rough pattern. By pressing one point of the taping knife into the drywall compound and the flat edge angled slightly away from the wall and by dragging the knife in a half-circle, half-moon grooves similar to adobe-style construction are created.

    Removing the Suspended Cabinets

    Suspended cabinets are screwed to the walls using at least four screws, through the inside of the cabinet into the wall studs. To install new cabinets, you will first have to remove the old ones.

    Instructions

    1. All of the contents from the cabinet, including the shelves should be removed first. Simply lift the shelves out of the cabinet to remove them.

    2. The lateral screws on the interior side walls of the cabinet should be removed to disconnect the cabinet from the cabinet beside it. If you can not find the screws, unscrew the door hinges to remove them as the lateral screws may be hidden behind.

    3. Unscrew the two bottom screws from the rear inside wall of the cabinet.

    4. By taking assistance of a partner secure the bottom of the cabinet so that the cabinet and see that it does not drop.

    5. After removing the two top screws inside wall of the cabinet, the cabinet should be lowered to the ground or countertop.
