However, all this comes with a hefty price tag. With the slowing economy, it is now tough to even spend on second hand furniture for one’s home.

There are some nice little tricks though that one can use to do the same thing at about less than half the price. One great idea is to buy new bed sheets and then either use them as it is or turn them into curtains or furniture covers. This will definitely add that zing to one’s home. The best part is that these are easily washable and can be changed according to one’s mood too. For example one can use brighter, warmer colours in winters and lighter shades in hot seasons.

Tips to do up a small kitchen

Posted In: Home Improvement by cooldude

Small kitchens do not offer much room for decoration because of the little space. However, here are some smart tips on how to do up a small kitchen. You could do up the room in pastel or neutral tones. It’s better if you can keep similar tint for your cabinets, floors and walls alike as it helps in creating an illusion of more space.

Diagonal patterns and shiny surfaces on floor also bring in a similar illusion. Make sure to keep your room clean and clutter free always. Do not keep anything over the cabinets or refrigerators.

Invest on taller cupboards rather than the broader ones as they occupy lesser wall space compared to the wider ones and keep all your appliances inside. Illuminate the kitchen with proper lights and keep the windows open. This will keep the room bright and fresh and more inviting to cook in. If possible, place a mirror opposite to your window to bring more light inside.

When you enter your garage trying to park your car in, and face difficulties due to lack of space; it is time to organize your garage. Garage is used as a semi-storeroom by most of the people and they dump usually the “not to be used” stuffs there. But if you follow certain steps, organizing the garage would not be difficult.

Empty your garage fully; means each and everything which may include useless trash also. Now divide the stuffs into three groups; useful, trash and sell. Do not keep things which you will never require as the garage is not a showcase to keep show pieces. Now clean-up your garage and paint the walls and ceiling with a soothing light color.

The flooring will require a thick coating of rubber sheet or tiles. Lastly, plan up on how you will place the useful belongings in an organized way. Make shelves at higher levels if required to create more space.

Wood is a common material used for construction of outdoor decking, railing and support posts. Different types of wood, like redwood and pressure-treated wood are useful for these constructions.

    Redwood

Redwood is known for its aesthetic red appearance and beauty and it comes from California. A high grade type of redwood is resistant to insects and does not rot. Its high cost is a drawback so the redwood use is very less.

    Pressure-Treated Wood

Pressure-treated wood is usually made up of yellow pine and chemically coated with chromium copper arsenate. This treatment makes the wood resistant to insects, bacteria and fungi. The cost of this wood is less than redwood.

    Considerations

Redwood is a natural wood, but pressure-treated wood contains harmful elements, such as arsenic, copper and chromium as it is chemically treated. When installing this type of wood care should be taken by using face masks and gloves for protection.
