At a construction site it is important to arrange for artificial lighting especially at night. When it comes to construction site lighting options, there are three kinds of lightings available. These include regular lightings, access and staircase lighting and emergency lighting. The regular lighting is required to light up the overall construction site.

The access and staircase lighting is required mainly to ensure the safety for the construction workers. As a result of this lighting the construction workers would be able to roam freely in and around the construction site. The construction site lighting will also help to keep the burglars and thieves at bay.

The emergency lighting should be installed at the major exit points of the building under construction. These are subdivided into maintained and non-maintained. Maintained lights are those that are powered by electricity while non-maintained ones are those that are powered by batteries. To reduce the cost of lighting you can use led lights.

It’s everyone’s dream to own a mansion that looks royal and has all the comfort that exists in the contemporary world. But not everyone can afford a mansion like that but can fool the human eye by creating illusions that make the home look larger than it really is. The first and foremost step is to make the space visible, because you’ll only use a room when you see it.

Another useful tip is to make the diagonal viewing possible – i.e. to make one corner of the house visible from the other corner. This has to be done during the house construction as after work can cost you a lot. And instead of having a separate dining room and a dedicated living room, you can have one room for both the functions as you seldom use those rooms for their very purpose. Also vary the ceiling heights to give that illusion a bit of flair.

If you are constructing something in your home or anywhere by yourself, there are some things you should know about laying down concrete. Your forms of the building should be strong and should have enough support. Put in some more stakes if you think that the forms may get strained. Don’t do it alone. At least have 2 other people help you out. Gather your tools and cross check before starting. You can’t afford to run errands to the store in the middle of work.

Always keep a spare wheelbarrow just in case the one you have gives in. If you are pouring out the concrete on a larger area, do invest in a concrete pump. Manual work alone will be difficult to maneuver in such a case. Always order a little more concrete than you require. It’s been seen that sometimes during work, some concrete gets wasted. So there’s no harm in keeping some extra just in case. If you don’t need it, keep it aside, you can use it later somewhere either during repair or something of that sort.

Wood is a common material used for construction of outdoor decking, railing and support posts. Different types of wood, like redwood and pressure-treated wood are useful for these constructions.

    Redwood

Redwood is known for its aesthetic red appearance and beauty and it comes from California. A high grade type of redwood is resistant to insects and does not rot. Its high cost is a drawback so the redwood use is very less.

    Pressure-Treated Wood

Pressure-treated wood is usually made up of yellow pine and chemically coated with chromium copper arsenate. This treatment makes the wood resistant to insects, bacteria and fungi. The cost of this wood is less than redwood.

    Considerations

Redwood is a natural wood, but pressure-treated wood contains harmful elements, such as arsenic, copper and chromium as it is chemically treated. When installing this type of wood care should be taken by using face masks and gloves for protection.

    Warmer Climates

In Placer County, California a water line must be installed at least 12 inches beneath the ground according to the building code. Measurement should be done from the top of the line.

    Wooden wheelchair ramp

Posted In: Home Construction by gilbertconstruct

Making a wooden wheelchair ramp yourself is not very difficult. To support the patient and wheelchair weight the ramp must be strongly built.

    Instructions

    1. Cut out a square piece of plywood of length 5.5 feet by 1.5 feet. A straight-edge is placed diagonally on the square piece of plywood and the square piece is cut into the two triangle shaped pieces required for the ramp.

    2. Prepare two four 4-foot pieces to connect the ramp sides. Place the two bottom pieces in such a way that one is kept flush in the back corners and other is kept just before the side triangles’ front tip.

    3. Using the drill, screws are screwed through the side plywood triangles into each end of the 2-by-4s. The top 2-by-4s are positioned in the top corners and one in the middle of the side triangles, and are screwed in place with two side screws.

    4. A square piece of plywood cut and placed on top of the ramp and the plywood edges are screwed into the triangle shaped plywood sides of the ramp. Then plywood is screwed to the three 2-by-4s which are at the top of the ramp.
