How to plan out a bathroom renovation

    Posted In: Bathrooms by cooldude

If you are planning to renovate your bathroom on your own, then there are two main things that you need to keep in mind – the protection from moist and the lighting. Repair all electrical connections before you look into anything else as safety comes first. Then if you want to repair or replace the tiles do so. Choosing tiles for bathrooms should be done keeping in mind that it’s not of a slippery material and it suits the essence of your bathroom.

The walls should have water resistant paint and protective coating should be put on any kind of furniture of the bathroom. Moisture can spoil furniture faster than anything else so care should be taken. Last but not the least; give some thought about the lighting. If you want an overhead sink light the xenon lights give a bright option here. And then you can invest in some decorative lights as well to give your bathroom a soothing and classy look.

If you are constructing something in your home or anywhere by yourself, there are some things you should know about laying down concrete. Your forms of the building should be strong and should have enough support. Put in some more stakes if you think that the forms may get strained. Don’t do it alone. At least have 2 other people help you out. Gather your tools and cross check before starting. You can’t afford to run errands to the store in the middle of work.

Always keep a spare wheelbarrow just in case the one you have gives in. If you are pouring out the concrete on a larger area, do invest in a concrete pump. Manual work alone will be difficult to maneuver in such a case. Always order a little more concrete than you require. It’s been seen that sometimes during work, some concrete gets wasted. So there’s no harm in keeping some extra just in case. If you don’t need it, keep it aside, you can use it later somewhere either during repair or something of that sort.

From time to time we all want to change the look of our homes to make it look even better than before. Nice little updating, a fresh coat of paint and some new furniture can do the job. However, all this comes with a hefty price tag. With the slowing economy, it is now tough to even spend on second hand furniture for one’s home.

There are some nice little tricks though that one can use to do the same thing at about less than half the price. One great idea is to buy new bed sheets and then either use them as it is or turn them into curtains or furniture covers. This will definitely add that zing to one’s home. The best part is that these are easily washable and can be changed according to one’s mood too. For example one can use brighter, warmer colours in winters and lighter shades in hot seasons.
